Ethyl silicate
Toop’s zinc ethyl silicate lining is formulated using ethyl silicate resin. The presence of a
significant amount of metal in this lining results in the establishment of cathodic protection
on the steel surface. This coating forms a highly durable film upon application, thanks to
the chemical reaction that occurs between its components and the metal surface. This film
can absorb moisture, providing exceptional resistance to corrosive agents and heat of up to
400°C. This zinc-rich ethyl silicate lining provides excellent protection against various
environmental factors such as weather changes, UV rays, water, neutral salts, crude oil
products, and alcohol. Artificial methods, like creating a moist painting environment or
using a water spray after one hour of applying the lining, can be used if natural moisture is
not available. The top paints recommended to be applied on this lining include silicone,
epoxy, and polyurethane coatings.

The surface underneath should be clean and free from any contaminants.
Different physical and chemical preparation methods should be used based on the painting
system, intended service life, atmospheric conditions, and surface material. When it comes
to steel surfaces, it is recommended to opt for mechanical methods like sandblasting. It is
important to promptly paint the surface after preparing it and removing any dust caused by
sandblasting.
It is recommended to apply the paint indoors, within a
temperature range of 10 to 40°C, ensuring it is at least 3°C above the dew point.
- Airless spray with a ratio of 1:28 or 1:45 with a nozzle diameter of 0.15-
0.13-0.0 inch – - Conventional air spray with a nozzle diameter of 1.2-5 mm and a pressure of
3-5 atmospheres
Make sure to give each ingredient a good shake before mixing them. Combine the
ingredients and blend them based on the specified mixing ratio. Next, incorporate the
necessary quantity of thinner into the system and thoroughly blend. It is important to
carefully control the distance between the nozzle head and the workpiece, as well as the
wind pressure and hand movement speed. While applying the paint, it is important to stir
the paint in the tank continuously and at a slow pace. The spray should move in a consistent
and parallel manner to the workpiece surface, ensuring that each pass covers 50% of the
previously sprayed area. It is important to consider the direction and speed of wind when
spraying the paint outdoors. It is also necessary to adhere to the proper timing between
applying the lining, middle paint, and top paint. Pay attention to the expiration date of the
paint. Ensure that the ingredients are thoroughly mixed in accordance with the volume and
speed of the work. If the paint mixture has expired, it is best not to use it. Make sure to
securely close the lid of each paint container to prevent solvents from evaporating and
moisture from entering the hardener container.
- Wearing a mask and goggles and having the air conditioning turned on in indoor
spaces are essential due to the dangers of inhaling the solvent vapors from this paint. - Due to its flammability, this paint must be stored in an area away from heat, flames,
and sparks. - If the paint gets in your eyes or gets swallowed, rinse the area thoroughly with plenty
of water and then immediately consult a medical professional. - Store the product away from direct sunlight in a dry, cool environment at normal
temperature to avoid the priming paint freezing.
